Frequently asked questions
What does Mapssy do?
It asks Google Maps about the car trip, adds estimates for Apple Maps and Waze, and shows all three side by side. Tap a result to open the route in that app.
Do I need an account?
No. Comparing routes is free and needs no account. You only need a free account if you want to subscribe to Pro.
Which numbers are live and which are estimates?
Google Maps times come live from Google's own service. Waze has no route data Mapssy can use, and the website doesn't ask Apple Maps, so on the website those two cards show Mapssy's own estimate, worked out from the live answer and labelled “estimate”. The Mapssy iPhone app asks Apple Maps directly.
How it works →Why does the app show a different time when I open it?
Traffic changes minute by minute, so an app opened a few minutes after the comparison can differ by a minute or two. The results page shows when the times were checked. The app's own settings, such as avoiding tolls or motorways, can also change its answer.
Does the button open the same destination Mapssy timed?
Google Maps and Waze open at the point Mapssy timed. On the website, Apple Maps gets the place names you typed and picks its own point, so check its pin before you drive.
Why do the apps disagree so much?
Mostly because each app picks its own point for a place name, uses its own traffic data, and has its own route preferences. Our guide explains it in detail.
Guide →Does Mapssy work on my phone?
Yes, the website is built for phones first. Tapping a result opens the route in Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze if the app is installed.
What does Pro add?
Pro is an optional paid subscription. It lets you avoid tolls and vignettes, motorways or ferries and shows how many minutes that costs, plans a later departure with a traffic forecast, sorts the answers by fastest or shortest with a ranking, keeps your recent searches on your device, and removes all ads. Comparing routes stays free.
Pro →Why are there ads?
Route data costs money for every comparison. Ads from Google AdSense on content pages such as guides help pay for it; the route tool itself shows no ads. In Europe, Google asks for your consent first, and you can change your choice any time under “Cookie settings”.
What happens to my location?
Mapssy only asks for it when you tap “Use my location”. The point is used to find your address and to time the trip. It isn't stored on our servers or used for advertising; with Pro it's kept on your device in your recent searches, which you can clear in Settings.
Privacy →Does Mapssy store my trips?
No. Comparisons aren't saved on our servers. With Pro, your recent searches are kept in your browser on your device, and you can clear them in Settings.
How do I cancel Pro or delete my account?
Sign in and open Settings: “Manage subscription” lets you cancel Pro, and “Delete account” removes your account.
